Snow. Trail snow-covered at times - gear and expertise recommended. Attempted to make it to Bear Lake but the road was impassable for our vehicle after a certain point (2016 Mazda CX-5). Very large potholes/ponds in road weren't a big deal for ~6 inches of ground clearance, but at a hairpin around 1/2 mile from the lake, the road was completely. Pre-Travel To-Do's: Use CalTrans Quickmaps to check road conditions, chain requirements, and road closures before traveling to Big Bear Lake. Poor road conditions can exist in any season so be sure you're prepared to drive at any time.
